Kuwait has accused Iraq of violating its sovereignty

Kuwait has accused Iraq of violating its sovereignty by providing the United Nations with a list of coordinates and a map of the country's maritime zones, the Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

"In light of the submission by the Republic of Iraq to the United Nations of the list of coordinates and the map delimiting Iraq's maritime zones, we declare that this map violates the sovereignty of the State of Kuwait over its maritime zones and designated sea mountains," the ministry said.

In this regard, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kuwait has summoned Chargé d'Affaires of the Iraqi Embassy in Kuwait, Zaid Shanshula, to deliver a note of protest on Iraq's demands to the United Nations.

Kuwait's foreign ministry called on Iraq to "respect the historical relations between the two brotherly countries and their peoples and act responsibly" in accordance with the norms and principles of international law.

Bahrain and the UAE voted in favor of Kuwait, supporting its steps to protect its rights over territorial waters.
