The European Commission is not ready to promise Ukraine a specific timetable for EU membership, but expects that Kyiv will undertake "long-term, consistent efforts to prepare for membership." This was announced by Guillaume Mercier, the spokesperson of the European Commission, at a briefing held in Brussels.
"Various aspects of Ukraine's membership are being discussed in the context of the peace talks and post-ceasefire actions on Ukraine, but I cannot predict the outcome of those discussions," he said, adding that the EU "expects that Ukraine will continue its long-term, consistent efforts to prepare for membership" and promised that the commission would seek to ensure the conditions for Ukraine's EU membership "as soon as possible."
