French President Emmanuel Macron is seeking to speed up the appointment of allies to key posts to limit the power of his successor, who could be a right-wing politician, Politico reported, citing sources familiar with the matter.
"The French leader is speeding up the appointment of key staff and placing his loyalists in top positions to strengthen his influence and prevent the National Unity (right-wing parliamentary party - ed.) from implementing his populist agenda," the article states.
It is noted that the appointment of Fabien Mandon, who is considered an experienced and authoritative figure, to the post of Chief of the General Staff of France was partly due to the desire to oppose a number of initiatives of "National Unity", including the possible withdrawal of Paris from the NATO joint command.
