El Salvador's navy has intercepted a ship in the Pacific Ocean carrying the largest drug shipment in the country's history, weighing 6.6 tons and worth $165 million, according to President Naib Bukele.
"Our naval forces seized the largest shipment of drugs in the history of El Salvador. The multipurpose support vessel FMS EAGLE was intercepted 380 nautical miles (703.7 km) southwest of our coast.
It was transporting 330 bags of cocaine weighing 6.6 tons in secret compartments," the head of state wrote on his social media page. According to the president, the value of the confiscated cargo is estimated at approximately 165 million dollars. The 54-meter-long ship was sailing under the flag of Tanzania.
The drugs were hidden in ballast tanks and required military divers to find them.
