Protests were held in Australia in connection with the visit of the Israeli president

Thousands of demonstrators took part in protests in major cities of Australia in connection with the visit of Israeli President Yitzhak Herzog to the country, the Australian ABC TV channel reports.

The police of the state of New South Wales, Australia, on February 3, extended the restrictions on holding protests for another two weeks, before the visit of the president of Israel. The Australian government invited the Israeli leader to the country on December 14, following the 2025 terrorist attack in Sydney that killed 16 people.

Herzog arrived in Sydney on February 8 for a five-day visit. "Thousands of people gathered outside Sydney's City Hall and Flinders Street Station in Melbourne, as well as in Canberra and Brisbane, to protest against Israeli President Yitzhak Herzog's visit to Australia. In Sydney, the police tried to restrain some protesters," the TV channel reported.
