The UN Secretary General welcomed the resumption of negotiations between the US and Iran

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres expressed his support for the ongoing dialogue between Tehran and Washington, which should contribute to reducing tensions in the region. This was stated in the official statement of the Office of the Secretary General, which was published on Friday in New York.

"The Secretary-General welcomes today's renewed negotiations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States and hopes that they will help reduce regional tensions and prevent a wider crisis." All concerns can and should be resolved through peaceful dialogue," the statement said.

On February 6, a new round of negotiations between Iran and the United States regarding the resolution of the crisis over Tehran's nuclear program took place in the capital of Oman. The Iranian delegation was headed by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. The US delegation was headed by Steve Witkoff, special envoy of the US President. An additional round of negotiations will take place in the coming days, Barak Ravid, the correspondent of the American Axios portal and Israeli TV Channel 12, said, referring to the source.
