Spain plans to ban access to social media for children under 16

The Spanish government will ban access to social networks for minors under the age of 16, Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez announced at the World Government Summit in Dubai on Tuesday.

"Spain will impose a ban on access to social networks for minors under 16 years of age. "Platforms will have to implement effective age verification systems, real and effective restrictions," he said.

According to him, the corresponding decision will be presented to the Council of Ministers for discussion next week. Sanchez explained that this move will be part of a regulatory package aimed at creating a "healthy digital environment" and combating abuses by large digital platforms.
