"Zhoghovurd" daily writes:
"At the end of last year, with the help of Russian-based businessmen and philanthropists Artur Janibekyan and Artur Soghomonyan, it was announced to shoot a feature film about the legendary "Ararat 73", which is already being shown with great success in the post-Soviet territory.
The director of the film is Mher Mkrtchyan, and the co-author and main producer of the script is Valery Saharyan. At first glance, this step worthy of only praise and encouragement, for some reason, met with criticism in some circles in Armenia, as if it is Russian soft power, because there is a part of the Armenian-Ukrainian football confrontation in the film.
As the older generation of football fans confirmed in their conversations with us, in fact, in the golden period of "Ararat" in Armenia, people talked about working for Ukrainian teams in favor of Kyiv "Dynamo" (for example, losing at the right time and giving a point to "Dynamo"), and at that time it was perceived as a painful event, and it can be reflected in the film, because at that time there was such a point of view, belief, and not only about Ukrainian teams. In the Russian-language version, the film is called "Golden Double", and the premiere in Armenia will take place on February 5, at the "Moscow" cinema.
P.S.
Many states of the world themselves order films about historical successes, which is either a powerful propaganda tool or a way to cheer up their own society. It is unfortunate that our state does not come forward with such initiatives, this is still not enough, we also encounter criticism from close-to-government circles. Years ago, for example, it was announced that the film "East of Byzantium" was being shot, which was supposed to present the wars of Vardanants, but the film was never released.
Therefore, we should at least not hinder, but help Armenian businessmen and encourage the filming and distribution of films that remind us of our glorious past."
