Seven children and a woman were killed and six others were seriously injured when a gas cylinder and steam boiler exploded in Kabul, Afghan news agency AVA-press reported on Sunday.
"A gas cylinder and a steam boiler exploded in the Qala-e Fatullah area of Kabul, killing eight family members, including a woman and seven children. Six more were injured," the agency said.
The dead and injured are members of the same family who had recently returned from Pakistan and settled in the area. The explosion was so powerful that the house was completely destroyed.
"The victims were transferred to the medical institutions of the city, the condition of some of them is assessed as serious," the agency noted.
During the winter months, most Afghans, whose homes do not have central heating, rely on gas cylinders for heating. Many also use diesel and kerosene radiators. This leads to many accidents in different parts of the country.
