China has agreed to lift previously imposed sanctions on several British MPs for criticizing Beijing, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said during a visit to China. "I raised this issue and we discussed it. As a result, the Chinese have clarified that the restrictions are no longer in effect.
President Xi Jinping has said that this means all parliamentarians are free to visit China," Starmer told Sky News. The British MPs under sanctions have previously stated that they do not want the sanctions to be lifted, so that they do not become a "deal item" in relations with China.
According to Sky News sources, London has no intention of lifting restrictions on Chinese officials subject to British sanctions in exchange for the lifting of sanctions.
