Russia demands Germany to grant consular access to Suren Abajan

Moscow has sent a note of protest to Berlin regarding the detention of Russian citizen Suren Abajan in Germany on charges of providing humanitarian aid to Donbas, the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, reported, RIA Novosti reports.

To remind, at the beginning of January, the General Prosecutor's Office of Germany instructed the officers of the Federal Criminal Police to detain the Russian citizen Suren Abajan, who is accused of supplying humanitarian aid to Donbas.

"The note demanded an explanation from Berlin about the basis of such a decision. We demanded that the German side immediately provide consular access to the arrested Russian in order to clarify the situation and protect his rights and interests. We are keeping this issue under our maximum attention," Zakharova said during the briefing.
