The UN intends to reduce the cost of peacekeeping operations

The United Nations will commit to pay back nearly $900 million in July 2027 due to cuts in peacekeeping costs. This is stated in the letter of the secretary general of the organization, Antonio Guterres.

"We plan to reduce the cost of peacekeeping operations by 15 percent in 2025-2026 due to the announcement of a reduction in calculated membership dues payments.

This, in turn, under current rules, will force us to return almost $900 million in July 2027, which remained unused," the letter states.
