Greenland supported the idea of opening a NATO office on the island

The Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of Greenland Bentiarak Ottosen told "RIA Novosti" that he supports the idea of opening a NATO office on the island.

"Our prime minister said that NATO is thinking about setting up an office in Greenland, and in my opinion, it is very good," he said.

According to him, the possible opening of the NATO office is connected with the growth of the geopolitical importance of the Arctic and the strengthening of the interest of Russia and China in the region.

He noted that the melting of ice and the opening of sea lanes make security issues in the region more relevant.
