"Today, the USA is increasingly focusing outside the borders of Europe. NATO must transform into a more Europeanized organization in order to maintain its strength. The Euro must take appropriate steps," he said while speaking at the conference of the European Defense Agency in Brussels.
Callas called for the unification of the EU and NATO systems, stressing that 23 countries are members of both and "is extremely responsible for coordinating the actions of the two structures."
He also called for complementary actions of the EU and NATO and to strengthen the European component of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization by shifting military efforts from the US to Europe.
