German Foreign Minister Johann Wadeful noted that the UN is not obsolete. According to him, the order established on the basis of the UN Charter after the end of the Second World War ensures the credibility of international agreements.
In the past, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has stated that there is only one body that can adopt binding decisions and use force, that is the UN Security Council. That statement was made against the background of the formation of the "Peace Council" for the reconstruction and management of the Gaza Strip, which is also criticized for trying to replace the United Nations.
"The current events do not in any way mean that the UN is obsolete. On the contrary, the agreements themselves are not enough to prevent the ceasefire from turning into a rest for the preparation of new wars. Agreements must be reliable," Vadeful said in an interview with Welt am Sonntag.
According to the minister, only the international order, which was established after the end of the Second World War, at the center of the United Nations, "ensures that credibility".
