Berliner Zeitung. France has a real chance to leave NATO

According to the German newspaper Berliner Zeitung (BZ), the initiative of Clemence Goethe, the vice-president of the French National Assembly (lower parliament), calling for the country to withdraw from NATO, may become a reality against the background of existing disagreements within the alliance.

"What was considered an impossible political dream for a long time suddenly became a real opportunity. The discussion of France's withdrawal from NATO gained a new relevance due to the conscious decision of the United States of America to officially return to an overt imperial policy," the article says.

In an interview with BZ, Goethe stated that it is undesirable for France to maintain its status as a member of an alliance led by a power that does not recognize international law, undermines the country's stability and exposes it to the risk of being involved in conflicts that are against its national interests.

BZ noted that the country's president, Emmanuel Macron, has also expressed doubts about NATO's direction and has deployed French troops to Greenland, in part to counter Washington's threats.
