The USA should understand that supplying arms to Taiwan will have extremely serious consequences. Zhang Xiaogang, the official representative of the Ministry of Defense of the People's Republic of China, announced this in a briefing, commenting on the reports about the possible supplies of American weapons to the island, worth about 2 billion dollars.
"The issue of Taiwan is the most important of China's main interests, it is the first red line of Sino-American relations that cannot be crossed," he said.
As the Security Cooperation Agency of the US Department of Defense previously reported, the State Department approved the possible sale of the NASAMS air defense system and radar stations to Taiwan for almost $2 billion.
Taiwan has been governed by its own administration since 1949. Beijing considers Taiwan one of the provinces of the People's Republic of China.
