Peace treaty negotiations are ongoing

The conference of the EU Affairs Committees of the Parliaments of the European Union was held in Hungary. The Standing Committee on European Integration Issues of the National Assembly of Armenia participates in the conference as an invitee for the third time. In their speeches, the Armenian legislators touched on the peace agenda, Armenia-EU relations. Arman Yeghoyan, the chairman of the RA NA Standing Committee on European Integration Issues, emphasized the EU Council's decision to start visa liberalization dialogue with Armenia, expressed hope that the parties will complete this process as soon as possible.

"Also, we highly appreciated the council's decision to provide 10 million euros of support to the armed forces of Armenia through the European Peace Instrument for the first time," Yeghoyan said. Referring to the ongoing peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan, he informed that the negotiations are in progress. "I want to inform you that Armenia and Azerbaijan have signed the regulation on the joint activities of the commission on state border demarcation and border security issues and the state commission on state border demarcation, and in both countries it has already gone through the appropriate ratification procedures. Negotiations on the peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan are also in progress, and we hope to reach a final agreement as soon as possible," said Yeghoyan.

The "Crossroads of Peace" project proposed by the Armenian government will be another important milestone in the realization of this vision, said Mary Galstyan, a member of the RA NA Standing Committee on European Integration: "We propose to open all transport routes and infrastructures under the sovereignty and jurisdiction of each country, excluding any extraterritorial logic. : These routes will serve as a means of developing economic, political and cultural ties between the countries involved, thereby contributing to long-term peace and stability in the South Caucasus. Let's hope that all actors will use this driving force and positive dynamics to turn the unfortunate pages of history and achieve the long-awaited stability in the region," he noted.
