"The head of the chair of the State Institute of Physical Culture and Sports of Armenia was arrested in the framework of the criminal proceedings being investigated by the Anti-Corruption Committee of the Republic of Armenia on charges of accepting bribes.
Two more persons were arrested on the charges of aiding and abetting bribery. Motions to apply detention as a preventive measure against them were submitted to the court, which were granted."
According to the information we have received, the law enforcement operation will not stop there. Processes are also planned in other universities in the coming days, but in order not to spoil the operation, we do not know the names at the moment.
Let us remind that in 2025 On October 17, as part of the criminal proceedings carried out by the Anti-Corruption Committee, the rector of the Armenian State Pedagogical University named after Khachatur Abovyan Srbuhi Gevorgyan and the vice-rector Marianna Harutyunyan were arrested. The press secretary of the Anti-Corruption Committee, Marina Ohanjanyan, informed that the rector and the vice-rector are accused of creating and leading a criminal organization composed of various employees of the university, especially large-scale waste and fraud, as well as also to receive a bribe. Other employees of the university were also arrested as part of the criminal proceedings.
As a result, the court imposed house arrest on Srbuhi Gevorgyan, the rector of the Armenian State Pedagogical University named after Khachatur Abovyan, and as a combined measure, 20 million drams in bail. Marianna Harutyunyan, the vice rector of the Pedagogical University, was not arrested.
