"Fact" daily writes:
According to our information, Russian students will come to Armenia this month within the framework of the "For Russian" volunteer movement project. They are future philologists and teachers who have gone through a rigorous selection process: video portfolios, tests, essays, and then a three-day training at the "Voluntary School" of the Financial University.
68 of the 18 universities of the Russian Federation passed the final stage, and only 33 of them were given the right to represent Russia abroad, 8 of which chose Armenia. And what will they do in Armenia? Interactive courses, literary evenings, quizzes and master classes will be held. Famous Russian writers will be discussed without making them a school assignment.
They will show Armenian schoolchildren that Russian is not just a grade in the book, but the key to a wide cultural space, education in Russian universities, working in EAEU countries, reading famous writers in their original form or watching Russian movies without subtitles.
Today, the situation with Russian in Armenia is twofold.
On the one hand, the numbers are impressive. 70-80% of the population speaks Russian, there are more than 60 schools offering advanced language training, and Russian-language periodicals are published. On the other hand, in 2024, Russian officially received the status of a foreign language, which has already led to the reduction of teaching hours in a number of schools.
Let's add that the project "For Russian" was launched in 2024 as a pilot program and immediately showed its scale. already in the first year, more than 250 students from Russia and CIS countries applied, of which the best 30 went to nine countries.
