H.E. Catholicos Aram I met with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney in Ottawa. During the meeting, which lasted about an hour, a number of important regional issues were discussed, including the situation in Lebanon, Syria, the Middle East, Armenia, Palestine and Gaza. His Holiness presented his views and concerns, responding to the Canadian Prime Minister's interest on the mentioned topics.
His Holiness Aram I emphasized the issue of Artsakh in a special way and especially the fate of the leaders of Artsakh who are illegally held in the prisons of Azerbaijan. He suggested the Prime Minister of Canada to take special steps to facilitate the early release of political prisoners, the return of the people of Artsakh, the restoration of the right to sovereignty, as well as the preservation of the religious and cultural heritage of Artsakh.
