French President Emmanuel Macron has ordered increased security measures at the Louvre museum in Paris following a robbery, French government spokeswoman Maud Brechon said on Wednesday.
"Nanaev said that measures are being taken to ensure the security of the Louvre and demanded that these measures be accelerated. Proposals to accelerate these measures are expected next week," he said after the ministerial council meeting. It was broadcast live on the Elysée Palace's social media page.
Brejon added that administrative and judicial investigations are underway, which will "shed light on what happened".
On October 19, thieves broke into the Louvre and stole nine jewels, including crowns, earrings, necklaces and breastplates, that had belonged to French queens and empresses.
