How much pension do former presidents and members of the National Assembly receive? Trace

During the 9 months of 2025, about 31 million 450 thousand drams were allocated from the state budget funds for the payment of pensions of the former presidents of the Republic of Armenia, "Hetk" writes.

Currently, 3 former presidents are receiving pensions. According to the data provided by the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, the monthly pension of each of them is 1 million 164 thousand 800 drams.

The Law "On Ensuring the Activities of Officials, Service and Social Guarantees" stipulates that a special pension of 70 percent of the official rate of the President of the Republic, established by law, is assigned to the retired president, except in the case of dismissal.

In response to the "Trace" inquiry, the ministry does not specify which of the 4 former presidents does not receive a pension, as the question contains information about the personal data of a third party.

The law stipulates that a person entitled to a pension has the right to receive a pension if he applied to a pension awarding body in accordance with the law and was assigned a pension. In other words, it can be assumed that the 4th President Armen Sargsyan did not apply for a pension, because he did not return to Armenia after resigning.

According to Article 2, Part 1, Clause 3 of the same law, a person who has served as a member of the National Assembly for at least one constitutional term, upon reaching the age of 65. Currently, 189 of the former members of the National Assembly are receiving a pension.

According to the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, the average monthly pension of MPs is about 190,000 drams. The lowest deputy pension is 157,000 drams, 4.4 times higher than the minimum pension of 36,000 drams set in Armenia.

The deputy who receives the most pension receives a pension about 10 times more than the minimum pension: 356 thousand drams. According to the Ministry of ASR, 134 deputies receive a pension of 100 to 200 thousand drams, 50 deputies receive a pension of 200-300 thousand drams, and 6 former deputies of the National Assembly receive a pension of 300 to 400 thousand drams.
