The secret of abnormal solar activity has been revealed

The European Solar Orbiter spacecraft first helped scientists accurately determine the origins of fast electrons that excrete the sun. According to observations, these particles may occur either through powerful solar flares, or through the emissions of the crown (external layers). The work was published in the magazine of Astronomy and Astrophysics (A & A).

The Sun is the accelerator of the most powerful particles of the solar system. The electrons accelerate almost at speed and reach the planets, threatening for satellites and astronauts. However, it has so far unclear why electrons are found during delay in identical events and why events differ in intensity.

According to Alexander Harmut, two different scenarios were revealed in the Alexander Harmuti of the Labician Institute of Labicz. In the first case, we are talking about "impulse" flows when the electrons are almost immediately in the universe after the outbreak. The second refers to "gradual" flows related to the emissions of the crown, in which case the particles are emitted longer, but much more.

Solar Orbiter was able to record hundreds of such events. As a result, scientists followed how the particles spread through the turbulent solar wind and faced with magnetic disorders, which explains the delays observed.

Received data is important to predict space weather. According to the representatives of the European Space Agency, the emissions related to the coronary masses are the largest threat to the equipment and staff missions in orbit. In the future, ESA's new projects, Smile and Vigil missions will continue observations and allow risks arising from solar activity more accurately.
