Before flying to Russia, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed confidence that his visit to the BRICS summit will strengthen cooperation between New Delhi and Moscow. “My visit to Kazan will further strengthen the special and privileged strategic partnership between India and Russia,” — his office quotes Modi as saying. The Prime Minister noted that India values close cooperation within the BRICS framework, which has become an important platform for dialogue and discussion of issues on the global agenda.
The expansion of the organization, according to the Indian leader, has strengthened its inclusiveness.
The BRICS summit will be held in Kazan from October 22 to 24. The three-day event will be attended by representatives of 32 states, as well as UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.
BRICS is an interstate association created in 2006. Initially, it included Russia, Brazil, India, China and South Africa; since the beginning of this year, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the UAE and Saudi Arabia have joined the organization. Since January 1, Russia has chaired BRICS under the motto of strengthening multilateralism for equitable global development and security. As part of its chairmanship, Russia organizes more than 200 political, economic and social events.
