Dmitry Peskov, press secretary of the Russian President, commented on the first round of the presidential elections in Moldova and the referendum related to European integration.

He noted that the indicators of the given votes and the dynamics of their changes raise many questions.

"What we are seeing is a mechanical, hard-to-explain rate of increase in votes in favor of (Moldovan President Maia) Sandu and in favor of those participants in the referendum who are in favor of EU orientation," Peskov said.

He noted that any observer can record anomalies related to the increase of votes. According to the representative of the Kremlin, the opposition parties were under pressure during the pre-election campaign.

"Even in the conditions of such an unfree pre-election campaign, we see how many people do not support the ideology of the current president Sandu. This attracts attention. For the rest, we have to wait for the official summary of the results," added Peskov.
