Turkish Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy reported that the statue of Rome's emperor Marcus Aurelius was returned. This was reported by Ermenihaber.am.
According to the Turkish minister, the statue was stolen in the 1960s in the south-west of Turkey from the city of Antique Bubon and has been shown in the United States for 65 years.
Ersoy noted that diplomatical and legal efforts have been made to return the statue.
"It is a historic achievement," he wrote.
At the same time, the return of the statue was made as a result of cooperation with the Manhatter Regional Prosecutor's Office in New York State and the US Department of Internal Security.
Minister Ersoy also said that 8,967 historical cultural monuments have been returned to Turkey in the last 7 years.
