A total blackout occurred in Cuba when one of the thermal power plants stopped working. This was announced by the Ministry of Energy and Mining of Cuba on Friday, October 18.

The department clarified that the complete blackout of the national power system occurred due to an unplanned failure of the "Antonio Gutierrez Thermal Power Plant".

Cuban President Diaz-Canel Bermudez has assured that restoring the island state's energy supply is the "absolute priority" of the authorities.
