The hearing of the appellate complaint in the case of Vazgen Manukyan took place today in the RA Criminal Court of Appeal under the chairmanship of Judge Garnik Stepanyan.

Defense attorneys Erik Aleksanyan and Aram Vardevanyan demand to annul the on June 13, the decision made by the criminal court of the first instance of Yerevan city (judge Vahe Misakyan), by which Vazgen Manukyan was found guilty and sentenced to a fine of 400 thousand drams.

The defenders expect a new judicial act from the appellate criminal court, by which Vazgen Manukyan will be acquitted.

Eric Aleksanyan, justifying the defenders' claim in court, noted that the first instance criminal court of Yerevan city did not take into account the fact that Vazgen Manukyan's statement is political, which requires a clear separation in such situations, which is also stipulated by international conventions.

"The court did not properly assess his words and statements, did not take into account Vazgen Manukyan's personality, the fact that he was a political actor, his political role in the history of Armenia," emphasized the defense attorney Erik Aleksanyan.

The court session will continue. on November 19 at 10:30.

Let's remind that Vazgen Manukyan was charged under Article 301 of the RA Criminal Code (public calls aimed at usurping power, violating territorial integrity or forcibly overthrowing the constitutional order).
