The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced the destruction of an underground weapons depot in the suburbs of Beirut.
“Some time ago, at the precise direction of intelligence, the Air Force attacked an arsenal of weapons belonging to the terrorist organization Hezbollah,” the IDF press office said in a statement. “The weapons were stored in an underground storage facility in the Dahiya area, a key stronghold of Hezbollah terrorists in Beirut Numerous measures were taken before the strike to reduce the risk of harm to civilians, including advance warning to the population in the area, the military said.
Earlier today, the Israeli army ordered the evacuation of a building in the southern suburbs of Beirut, warning that it was in an area where the military "will operate in the near future." On September 23, the Israeli army launched Operation Arrows of the North against Hezbollah, in during which it carries out massive airstrikes on military targets of the Lebanese movement. One strike killed Hezbollah Secretary General Sheikh Hassan Nasrullah in Beirut on September 27. The movement confirmed his death and promised to continue to oppose Israel. On the night of October 1, the Defense Army announced the start of a ground operation in the border areas of southern Lebanon.
