Trump fires USAID inspector general

US President Donald Trump has fired USAID Inspector General Paul Martin after his office published a critical report on the presidential administration, NBC News reports, citing the text of the dismissal notice.

“On behalf of President Donald Trump, I am writing to inform you that your position as Inspector General of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has been terminated,” reads the letter to Martin, sent by Trent Moore, Deputy Director of the Office of the President’s Personnel Management. According to the text of the letter, the decision to eliminate the position is effective immediately.

According to the channel, Trump fired Martin after his office published a report describing the negative consequences of the actions of the American leader and his administration regarding USAID.

It included threats of staff cuts and lack of oversight, as well as uncertainty regarding the termination of US foreign aid.
