A trial was held in the Sabail District Court of Baku on the preventive measure against Azerbaijani citizen Azer Akif oglu Bagirov.
According to information, Azer Bagirov, accused of espionage, was arrested in Jordan and brought to Azerbaijan as a result of measures taken by the State Security Service of Azerbaijan.
The case materials show that a foreign state’s special service recruited Azerbaijani citizen Azer Bagirov in order to conceal his participation in provocative actions in third countries. Azerbaijani media reported that Bagirov intentionally harmed the interests of the state abroad and engaged in espionage activities, using his status as a citizen of Azerbaijan.
The court chose detention as a preventive measure against Bagirov under Article 274 of the Criminal Code (high treason).
