Romanian President's Resignation Too Late to Be Considered Honorable: Politicians' Opinion

Romanian political party leaders react to President Klaus Iohannis’ resignation

Today, February 10, Romanian political party leaders reacted to President Klaus Iohannis’s resignation. The majority agree that the decision should have been made earlier. The resignation now cannot be considered honorable, as Iohannis is trying to present it.

Elena Lasconi, leader of the Romanian parliamentary party “Union for the Salvation of Romania” (USR), accused the president of taking a belated step. Meanwhile, George Simion, leader of the “Union for the Unity of Romania” (AUR) party, declared that it was a victory for their supporters, who had been fighting for it for a long time during rallies. Crin Antonescu, the coalition’s joint candidate, who will run in the presidential election this spring, noted that the president made a “wise” but untimely decision.
