A conference on the return of Armenians to Nagorno-Karabakh was held in the French Senate

The “Concert for Peace in Armenia” association organized a conference in the French Senate on the topic “The Armenian People and the Right to Return to Their Lands.” Last year, the French Senate adopted an inter-party resolution condemning Azerbaijan’s military offensive in Nagorno-Karabakh.

Senator Marie-Doux Aeschlimann, a member of the France-Armenia Friendship Group, stated that the idea was to put Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) at the center of the debate.

Former Prosecutor General of the International Criminal Court Luis Moreno Ocampo also attended the event. The conference discussed the “right to safe return” of the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh and the “recognition of Nagorno-Karabakh.” “And how can the Senate, together with the Armenians, support this movement?” the senator stated.

The French Senate last year adopted a resolution condemning Azerbaijan’s military offensive in Nagorno-Karabakh in September 2023 and “establishing a sanctions regime at the European level against Azerbaijani officials and preventing further aggression and violation of Armenia’s territorial integrity by providing Armenia with defensive measures.”

In the fall of 2022, the Senate adopted a proposed resolution “establishing sanctions against Azerbaijan and demanding its immediate withdrawal from the territory of Armenia in order to ensure the implementation of the ceasefire agreement of November 9, 2020.”
