The US officially renamed the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of America, according to the country's Ministry of Internal Affairs website.
"Acknowledging the Gulf's enduring contribution to the economic strength and vitality of the United States, Trump affirms its central importance to the nation by officially renaming it America's Gulf," the department said.
The Gulf, as noted by the Ministry of Interior, is "one of the most important assets of the country's history and economy and the cornerstone of the nation's growth."
