Early voting participation in Belarus is a good indicator of voter turnout. Sergey Lebedev, the head of the CIS observation mission, the general secretary of the Commonwealth of Independent States, announced this to journalists, writes TASS.
"Yesterday was the first day of early voting, and I am happy to record that almost 8 percent of voters came to the polling stations yesterday, this is a good indicator of the activity of Belarusian voters," he said. The CIS Secretary General also noted that the efforts of the Belarusian authorities are the basis suggest that the presidential elections will be peaceful.
"Of course, we are all concerned about the situation in Belarus itself and, of course, the situation around Belarus. But the efforts made by the leadership of the Republic of Belarus, the structures responsible for the preparation and holding of elections. Give us a reason to be sure that everything will be done in a dignified, calm manner, and no provocation or intrigue will interfere with the elections," said Lebedev.
