AFP: Myanmar Air Force strike kills 40 in Arakan

At least 40 people were killed and 50 others were injured in an airstrike in Myanmar's Rakhine state, which was captured by the Arakan Army (AA) ethnic rebel group, Agence France-Presse reported.
The bombing led to a fire in the city's districts, which destroyed more than 500 residential buildings.

The airstrike also hit the AA-held village of Kyauk Ni Mo on Ramree Island, where Myanmar authorities had previously planned to build a strategic deep-sea port with Chinese help.

In an ongoing offensive against government forces since June 2024, the Arakan Army, the military wing of Rakhine's Buddhist majority, captured the strategic border town of Maungdaw and now fully controls the northern part of the state, as well as the 271 km border with Myanmar.
