India has extended the entry permit of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina

India has extended the entry permit of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who has been in the country since August last year after resigning due to protests. This is reported by The Business Standard newspaper, referring to sources.

The visa was extended by the Regional Foreigners' Registration Bureau. At the same time, the sources denied speculations that Sheikh Hasina would be granted asylum in the country, pointing out that India does not have a specific law regulating refugee issues.

Earlier, the Bangladesh authorities sent a note to the Indian Foreign Ministry with a request to extradite Sheikh Hasina. India's Ministry of External Affairs confirmed receipt but declined to comment on the matter.

The Hindustan Times wrote that the Indian government is unlikely to respond to Bangladesh's request because Dhaka has not completed the basic formalities needed to resolve such a problem.
