The “Hraparak” newspaper writes: “In connection with the upcoming local government elections, not only the opposition is anxious, but also the government. Where there is a potential candidate for mayor who is not with the CP, he is subjected to pressure. Yesterday, the Yerevan Anti-Corruption Committee summoned the mayor of Noyemberyan, Arsen Aghababyan, and even spread through their media that he was arrested. He has been the mayor since 2016, and last time he was nominated by the “Aprelu Yerkir” party.
He was summoned for questioning in an old case, then he returned. These days, they are also “investigating” the property and business ties of the mayor of Abovyan, Eduard Babayan.
Both of these community leaders enjoy great authority in their communities and if they run, the Communist Party will not be able to nominate an equivalent competitor, and half of the victory in local government elections is the person of the community leader candidate. Now the government is trying to intimidate the incumbent community leaders into either taking them to its side or not allowing them to run." More details in today's issue of the newspaper
