A passenger ferry carrying about 260 people has capsized off the coast of Northern Cyprus,TRT Haberreported.
"The ferry with about 260 passengers on board sank four miles off the coast of Girne after taking on water. Search and rescue operations are underway in the area. There are no reports of possible casualties," the statement said.
Extensive preparations are underway at the port of Girne to evacuate passengers.
All necessary precautions have been taken on the shore. Civil defense teams are setting up medical tents in the port, where first aid will be provided and those in serious condition will be immediately transferred to hospitals.
