Dangerous heatwave spreading/ Temperatures will exceed 38 °C

The dangerous heat wave that has gripped the western United States will begin to subside on Sunday, but extremely high temperatures will spread to the Midwest and eastern states in the coming days, ABC News reports.

Extreme heat warnings were in effect for parts of Southern California and Arizona, including Phoenix, Tucson and Palm Springs, on Tuesday. Residents were urged to avoid spending long periods outdoors and to conserve electricity. Severe heat warnings were also issued for coastal areas of Southern California, including Santa Barbara, Los Angeles and San Diego counties.

Sunday's heat will move to much of the Midwest. Temperatures in the Wichita, Kansas, Kansas City, Missouri, and Des Moines, Iowa areas will feel as high as 100 degrees Fahrenheit (38 degrees Celsius), with humidity levels expected to reach 100 degrees Fahrenheit (38 degrees Celsius).

The heat wave will continue to sweep across the eastern United States through Tuesday. Chicago will see temperatures as high as 98 degrees Fahrenheit (36 degrees Celsius), while Charlotte and Raleigh, North Carolina, Richmond, Virginia, and Washington, D.C., could see temperatures above 100 degrees Fahrenheit (38 degrees Celsius).

Meanwhile, much of the northeastern United States is expected to avoid the heat wave. It will also be warmer and more humid next week, but temperatures should be safe.
