"Zhoghovurd" daily writes: "Today, a rather unusual and politically remarkable situation has been created in the National Assembly. Narek Karapetyan, the head of the "Strong Armenia" faction, announced in the parliament yesterday that today, at 16:00, they will be at the court session of Vehapar. The announcement was unexpected especially because today the discussion of the candidacy of the candidate for the NA vice president, the deputy of the "Strong Armenia" faction Aram Vardevanyan, and then the voting, continues in the parliament.
In other words, it is a fundamental priority for the opposition faction to attend the trial of the Catholicos and other clerics. Let's note that for three days now, government deputies have been asking Vardevanyan questions one after the other, making speeches about his candidacy, and one of the main questions on the political agenda has become whether the government will ensure his election without the opposition, thus aborting the process of choosing the opposition deputy speaker.
In response to the journalists' question, Narek Karapetyan stated that the priority for them at the moment is to be present at the court session of His Holiness the Highness, not the election of the deputy speaker, even if he is their candidate. Thus, it is not excluded that the two-day discussions will end without a vote today, if the CP does not organize a vote on the candidacy of Aram Vardevanyan in the absence of opposition factions.
Let's remind that today, representatives of the "Strong Armenia" faction, the representatives of the "Prosperous Armenia" party, the deputies of the "Armenia" faction, and various opposition figures have announced that they will be near the court and support the Catholicos.
This circumstance creates an interesting political contradiction. the two opposition forces, which were supposed to participate in the election process of Aram Vardevanyan in the parliament, are going to be at the courthouse at the same time and will not vote for the candidate nominated by them.
