Italy has suspended the Schengen agreement with Spain due to the migration crisis in Ceuta, announced Prime Minister Giorgia Maloney.
"The government has decided to temporarily suspend the Schengen agreement with Spain on sea and air freedom of movement and restore border control," the Prime Minister wrote in a statement.
According to Maloney, this measure will remain in effect as long as necessary, but "with the utmost effort to avoid any negative impact on summer tourist flows."
The prime minister also announced Italy's readiness to support any European initiative to help the Spanish authorities maintain full border control in EU countries and resolve the crisis.
