A new public criminal prosecution was initiated against PAP leader Gagik Tsarukyan under the article of tax evasion. After more than 12 hours of questioning, Emin Khachatryan, one of Tsarukyan's defenders, told the journalists.
The lawyer described this proceeding as a joke, reminding that Tsarukyan handed over all his businesses to administration since 2003, when he was elected a member of the National Assembly.
"Mr. Tsarukyan could not have anything to do with the management of his businesses at all. The new criminal prosecution is related to the brandy factory. This is political persecution, political pressures", said the defender.
Referring to today's confrontation, Emin Khachatryan noted that there was a contradiction between the testimony of the Iranian brothers and what they said today.
Tsarukyan, who was arrested after the elections, is accused of committing particularly large-scale fraud and money laundering. According to law enforcement agencies, he organized the robbery of Iranian businessmen's property worth more than 21 million dollars. Meanwhile, Tsarukyan's lawyers claim that the Iranians owe the leader of the "Prosperous Armenia" party, and there are promissory notes confirming this.
Tsarukyan's defense claims that the same persons were convicted in the same case in Iran and are obliged to pay Tsarukyan a large sum of money.
