A major fire broke out in the building of an educational center in the city of Lucknow in the central Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, as a result of which at least 14 people were killed. Deputy Prime Minister Brajesh Pathak told reporters. "I saw 14 bodies of those who died in the fire," Pathak was quoted as saying by ANI. At the time of the fire, there were 16 and 17-year-old students in the building.
Some were injured. Videos have been shared on social media showing students jumping from windows in an attempt to escape the flames and thick smoke.
Firefighters and rescuers are working at the scene. Dozens of people were evacuated from the building. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Authorities have launched an investigation.
