In Niger's capital, Niamey, militants attacked the Diori Haman International Airport, the country's largest airport and an important military facility.

According to the Ministry of Defense, 35 people were killed in the attack, including 11 servicemen, 2 civilians and 22 militants. Jama'a Nusrat ul-Islam wa al-Muslimin, a group linked to al-Qaeda, claimed responsibility for the attack.

During the operation, the forces also arrested about 20 suspects and confiscated a large arsenal of weapons.
