NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte believes that Iran is further from developing nuclear weapons than ever. "All NATO allies agree that Iran should not be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons. Today, as a result of US actions, Iran is further away from acquiring nuclear weapons than ever," he said, opening the NATO Council meeting at the level of defense ministers.
He said that all NATO members are "enthusiastic about the prospect of peace as a result of the US-Iran agreement," which he called a "remarkable achievement."
"Thank you, and of course thank you to the President of the United States," Rutte said, addressing Pentagon Secretary Pete Hogsett. He also noted that NATO countries will discuss their participation in efforts to maintain freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
