Orban: Russian gas supplies helped Hungary overcome the January cold

Hungarians did not feel the January cold thanks to gas supplied from Russia, which is used to heat their homes. This was announced by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán before the government session dedicated to issues of housing and communal services during the unusually cold and snowy winter.

"We haven't had such a cold January for several decades. It's at times like these that we really feel how much utility bill reductions are worth and what a great achievement it is that even in today's crazy world we have access to the cheap Russian oil and gas we need to keep the country running normally," Orbán wrote on Facebook.

The Hungarian government has repeatedly stated that it cannot give up Russian energy sources at the moment, although it continues the policy of diversifying supply channels and sources. That is why Budapest does not support the plan of Brussels, which envisages the cessation of oil and gas purchases from Russia by the European Union countries until the end of 2027.
