Egyptian politician and professor of Egyptology Khaled al-Anani became the new Director General of UNESCO. This is stated in the message published on the website of the organization.

His candidacy was approved by the member countries of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. Al-Ananin received 172 votes.

"The new director-general will take office on November 15, replacing Audrey Azoulay, who has led UNESCO since 2017," the statement said.
