The Sudanese army rejected a cease-fire offer by the United States and announced a popular mobilization to fight the Rapid Intervention Forces (RIF) militants who have taken control in the western part of the country, Bloomberg reports.
"The council has decided to mobilize the people of Sudan to support the armed forces in eliminating rebel militias as part of the overall mobilization and efforts by the state to suppress this insurgency," the agency quoted the Sovereign Council (interim governing body) as saying.
According to Bloomberg, on October 30, the commander of the Sudanese army, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, decided to reject the US proposal after an emergency meeting of the Transitional Military Council.
Earlier, Bloomberg, citing sources, reported that the Sudanese army is considering a US offer to mediate an agreement between the conflicting parties. The agency noted that Egypt is pressuring the Sudanese military to establish peace. Details of the project have not been disclosed.
